Sausage Rolls

There will come a time in all our lives where we need to make something for a kids birthday party, snacks to have with drinks or a finger food for a BBQ. Thats why I always have my recipe for sausage rolls up my sleeve.

Whoever came up with the idea for sausage rolls should be commended with the highest honour possible. These little pastry wrapped parcels of meat are so good, and whats more enjoyable is that you can add and remove from the basic recipe as much as you want. Heck you could even take the sausage mince out and replace it with mashed pumpkin or sweet potato for a vegetarian option.

This recipe is an adaption of my Mum's recipe. It uses store bought pastry (even though you could make your own if you wanted) and sausage mince which should be available at almost all supermarkets. Add some veggies, spices and my secret ingredient and you have a batch of sausage rolls that would satisfy even the hungriest child.

Sausage Rolls

Makes 30

Ingredients

5 sheets puff pastry
500g sausage mince
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 carrot, grated
1 onion, finely diced
1 egg
1 tbps all-purpose seasoning
1 tsp chilli flakes
1 tsp cumin
salt
pepper
1 tsp vegemite, dissolved in 2 tsp hot water

Finally grate your carrot and add to large bowl
Finely dice the red onion and add to large bowl
Add spices
Add mince, eggs, breadcrumbs, vegemite and a pinch of salt.
Mix all ingredients by hand until well combined.
Cut pastry sheets in half.
Spoon mixture into centre of pastry, brush edge furthest from you with egg wash and roll up.
Slice into 6 even segments and place on lined baking tray.
Brush each roll with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds
Bake for 15 minutes at 220℃

So tasty!
