Philadelphia Cheesesteak

Ok Foodies, so even though I have never travelled to the US, doesn't mean I can't enjoy the street food they have. It was 4pm in the afternoon and I was racing around town trying to find fresh Jalapeños for a recipe and was having no luck at all. So I needed a back up plan.

I saw a recipe on a blog I follow for Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches and thought to myself, I must try this...The Cheesesteaks will be mine. So I picked up the few ingredients I needed, headed home and got started.

I thought, why not video it at the same time? So I whipped out the camera and tripod, got my recording gear together and set it all up. By midnight I had cooked and recorded everything I needed and settled in to edit and of course eat dinner...

What can I say. For something so simple, these Philly Cheesesteaks pack an almighty flavour punch right up in my mouth. So good and so adaptable too. Don't like beef? Try chicken! Now I didn't have any Provolone cheese (which is traditional) so I used an Aged Vintage Cheddar instead. The bite from the cheese was perfect. It really rounds out the taste of the capsicum and Worcestershire sauce.

Now even though my prep and cooking time were very long due to filming, I would be approximating around 10 minutes of prep time and 25 mins of cooking time. This makes it ideal for a meal on the run or even a quick lunch.

Ok so on to the recipe. There is also a video at the bottom of the page. Check it out and Subscribe to my channel for more exciting videos to come.

Ingredients

3 Blade Steaks, thinly sliced *see note
1 Green Capsicum, thinly sliced
1 Brown Onion, thinly sliced
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
Salt
Pepper
Cheese, I have used Vintage Tasmanian Chedder
Rolls, or in my case Turkish Bread
Olive Oil

Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and cook your onion and capsicum until browned and a little translucent. Once cooked, set it aside, add a little more oil and your steak cook until beautifully brown. Once steak is cooked, add sauce, salt, pepper and cooked vegetables and give a thorough mix.

Now the fun part! Place slices of cheese over steak and cover with a lid to steam and make the cheese all gooey. This should only take about 2-3 minutes. Now scoop some up and add it to a freshly cut roll or toasted Turkish bread.

I added some Smoked Hickory Bacon on my second attempt and it really rounded out the flavours of the meal.

Here is the video for your viewing pleasure.
